Privacy Policy
We collect what we need to plan and book your cruise and to send the emails you asked for. We don't sell your information. Here's the whole picture, in plain English.
The short version
- If you join the email list, we have your email address. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- If you send an inquiry, we have what you put in the form.
- If you book, the cruise line and our host agency, Outside Agents, get the traveler details needed to make and manage the booking.
- We don't use analytics. The Bar Tab Calculator runs in your browser and sends us nothing.
- We don't sell your personal information. Email [email protected] to see, fix or delete what we have.
1. Who we are
Your Cruise Person is a small, independent cruise travel advisor business based in California and run by Ashley. When this policy says "we", "us" or "our", it means Your Cruise Person.
We book travel as an independent agent of a host agency, Outside Agents. That relationship matters for your privacy, because bookings are handled through the host agency's systems. Section 4 explains how.
This policy covers yourcruiseperson.com, our emails, and the information you give us when you plan or book a trip with us. It doesn't cover other companies' websites or apps, including cruise line sites, even when we link to them.
2. What we collect
What you give us
- Email list. Your email address, and your first name if the signup form asks for it.
- Inquiry form. Your first name, email address, when you'd like to travel and how many adults are going. You can also choose to tell us children's ages, the cruise lines you're considering, a sailing you've already found, and anything else you want us to know.
- Emails and messages. What you send us by email, or by direct message on social media.
- Booking details. To book a cruise, cruise lines require information about every traveler. That usually means full names exactly as they appear on passports or ID, dates of birth, gender as shown on travel documents, citizenship, passport or ID details, home address, phone number, email address, emergency contact, and loyalty program numbers. It can also include things you choose to tell us so we can pass them to the cruise line, such as accessibility or mobility needs, dietary needs, or celebrations.
- Payment details. Cruise fares are paid to the cruise line or travel supplier. If you give us card details so a payment can be made for your booking, they're used for that payment only.
- Children's details. If a parent or guardian books a trip that includes children, we'll need the children's names, dates of birth and document details for the booking. We only get these from the parent or guardian.
What's collected automatically when you visit the site
- Technical details. Your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, the page you came from, the pages you view, and the date and time. Our hosting provider and the services described in sections 4 and 5 receive these as a normal part of loading a web page.
- Email activity. When you open one of our emails or click a link in it, our email service can record that.
What we get from others
- Cruise lines and travel suppliers. Booking confirmations, itineraries, payment status and changes to your trip.
- Our host agency. Booking and account records kept in its booking system.
- People who book for a group. If someone else books a trip that includes you, they may give us your details. Please make sure everyone in your party is comfortable with that.
3. How we use it
- To answer your questions and plan your trip.
- To make, change and manage bookings with cruise lines and suppliers, and to send you reminders about deadlines like final payment and online check-in.
- To send the emails you signed up for.
- To get paid. Cruise lines pay our commission through our host agency, which needs booking records to do that.
- To keep records we're required to keep, for example for taxes and California travel law, and to protect against fraud or misuse of the site.
We don't use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we don't build advertising profiles.
6. Do Not Track and tracking across sites
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There's no agreed standard for what a website should do when it receives one, and this site doesn't currently change how it works in response to Do Not Track signals. The opt-out add-on and cookie controls in section 5 work whether or not your browser sends the signal.
Other companies can collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites. On this site, that means Google (through Google Fonts) and, if you accept marketing cookies, Klaviyo (through its forms and email links). They may link what they collect here with what they collect on other sites that use their services. Their own privacy policies govern that: Google, Klaviyo and Cloudflare.
7. How long we keep it
- Email list. Until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only your email address on a do-not-email list, so you don't get added back by mistake.
- Inquiries that don't turn into a booking. Up to two years, in case you come back to plan, then we delete them. Ask and we'll delete sooner.
- Booking records. For as long as the trip is being planned or taken, and then for up to seven years, because tax rules, commission records and California travel law require us to keep records of sales.
- Hosting logs. Kept by Cloudflare for the short periods it needs to run and secure the service.
Cruise lines and our host agency keep booking information in their own systems under their own retention rules.
8. How we protect it
The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). The accounts that hold your information, such as our email, email service and booking tools, are protected with strong passwords and two-step login, and only the people who run Your Cruise Person can get into them. We don't ask for passport or card details over social media messages, and we don't keep card numbers after a booking is paid.
No system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise that nothing will ever go wrong. If a security problem affects your personal information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Please don't send passport or card details through the inquiry form. We'll ask for booking details when it's time to book.
9. Your choices and requests
Emails
Every marketing email we send has an unsubscribe link. Click it and you're off the list, and we process it within 10 business days (usually right away). You can also email us and ask. Even after you unsubscribe, if you've booked with us we'll still send messages about your booking.
See, fix or delete your information
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we have about you, and give you a copy
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete your information
Email [email protected] from the address we have for you, or tell us enough to find your records. We may ask a question or two to confirm it's really you before we hand anything over or delete it. We'll respond within 45 days. If someone else is making the request for you, we'll need to confirm they have your permission.
A few limits apply. We may need to keep some records of a booking you've taken, for the reasons in section 7. And once a cruise line or our host agency has your booking details, we can't delete them from their systems. We'll tell you what we couldn't delete and why, and point you to the right company.
If you live in California
The California Consumer Privacy Act gives rights to consumers of businesses above certain size limits, such as a minimum amount of annual revenue. Your Cruise Person is a small business and doesn't meet those limits. We still honor the requests above for everyone who asks, and we won't treat you differently or charge you for making one.
10. Children
This site and our emails are meant for adults planning travel. They aren't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The only children's information we handle is what a parent or guardian gives us to plan or book a family trip, such as children's ages in the inquiry form, or names and dates of birth for a booking. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll also put a notice on the home page, and email the people on our list or with a booking, before it takes effect.
12. Contact us
Questions, requests or worries about your information go to Ashley at [email protected]. You'll hear back from a person, not a ticket system.
